A while back, I came across this platform of enlightened minds, nonconformist views, and controversial opinions. After reading a couple of articles by the Medium-established mastodons of the written word, I firmly decided to join this hub of penned intelligence.
Seizing the Day
Born and raised in Moldova, with two and a half years of experience living in Belgium, I’m an aspiring musician—a jazz vibraphonist and composer—seeking to express my creativity in every possible way, without limiting myself to music alone. I believe that any form of activity leaves room for an artistic approach, something I aim to carry into every field I choose to engage with.
Currently, my music career is on hold. Sadly, there isn’t much happening in Moldova when it comes to niche creative scenes, so I plan to move back to Belgium starting next fall. In the meantime, I work as an English teacher. I work exclusively with pre-teens and strive to keep our lessons dynamic by deviating from the norm as often as possible—diversifying lesson plans and making learning fun and engaging.
For instance, my students and I recently carried out a series of friendly Christmas pranks by calling some of my friends from a local English-speaking club and asking deliberately absurd questions—such as whether we should call elves to fix the Christmas tree lights because they were malfunctioning. It was a good fun!
In the Realm of Music
Working as an English tutor is fun, but I feel my mission serves another purpose: to share my music and, hopefully, inspire others.
Once, the great jazz pianist Chick Corea said, “I’d like to make an album to be loved by everyone.” That line became my credo. I believe we can build almost anything in life around this simple idea—one that deeply moved me the day I first encountered it. Of course, it’s not about pleasing everyone. To me, it’s about creating something meaningful and human, something sensed rather than explained.
Writing and Composing: From the Same Soul
The more I write, the better I compose—and vice versa. While I’m far from being an expert in neuroscience, I sense that these processes are deeply interconnected.
Writing itself is incredibly diverse. After finishing a few stand-up comedy scripts, the idea of blending a jazz concert with stand-up comedy emerged. It feels like it could be a game-changer—a meeting point between serious music and released tension, allowing the audience to experience both depth and relief.
