Ethics Unimposed is the debut release by vibraphonist Andrei Marian with this trio, and the first real statement of his project Triptology.

The material was written during a transitional period in his life — an in-between state that carried both urgency and direction. Even so, the music already begins to point towards a clear artistic path, both in its instrumentation and in the way the project is set to evolve over time.

All six compositions came together over the course of just two weeks. They are built on fixed structures, but leave plenty of room for freedom and a non-intrusive approach to performance — a balance that sits at the heart of the album’s title.

Ethics Unimposed refers to the idea of form without imposition — music that doesn’t force a direction, but rather suggests one, and lets it unfold organically.

This release marks the beginning of Triptology: an opening statement that leaves space for the music to be explored, shift its shape, and gradually carve out its own path.

The Origins

TRIPTOLOGY: HOW IT ALL STARTED

This material, written a couple of years ago, was waiting for its moment, and now, with each passing day, it is coming to life. But this would not have happened if the project’s drummer, Alex Zavalii, had not taken the first step toward its realization, suggesting not to postpone the idea, but to act here and now.

At the first stage, the analysis of the composition was done by Andrei Marian and Alex, this became the foundation. Into the structure of Andrei’s concept and Alex’s groove, Ion Virlan joined quite quickly, and within a few rehearsals, he was able to connect with the main idea of the project.
